Brett Naseby, Photographer & Videographer - Get to know a Griffith Local
Name: Brett Naseby
Occupation: Advertising Video Producer/Commercial Photographer
What do you actually do? Write and produce tv commercials, corporate video and commercial photography
How long have you been in the business? Since 2008-2009
How did you get started? I started on the back of working at WIN Television as an advertising rep then made my hobby my job. I initially started photographing sports but when a local wedding photographer became pregnant, a couple who were without a photographer, asked me to photograph their wedding. From there, I became heavily involved with real estate marketing for a while but now my work is far more varied. Prior to all of that, I worked for Telstra for 16 years, starting at the bottom before moving into construction management.
If you could go back, what advice would you give to yourself at 18 years old? Lose the mullet and check second-hand cars out properly before buying.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out? Learn about sales. Everything is sales in every industry. If we’re not selling our products or services we’re selling our ideas and our capability as individuals.
How would your friends describe you? I think most would say I’m pretty friendly and have a good sense of humour
Tell me about where you grew up and what your family life was like. I grew up on a rice farm in Coleambally til I was 9 or 10 then moved into town where my parents bought the newsagency.
I was heavily involved in all sports as a teenager. I was really quite capable at school but made little time for study which led to me leaving school after year 11. I was always allowed to try pretty much anything I wanted and had a massive amount of freedom.
Who have been your strongest influences in life? I guess my Dad taught me a lot of the things I like doing best but I’ve been lucky enough to meet and work with so many talented business people, it’s hard to name many standouts. On a personal level now, my children are my strongest influence, as their needs are more important than mine right now and they need support.
Is there a charity or cause you prefer to support if/when possible? Amnesty International
What has been the hardest thing for you to learn? To remember I can’t keep up with my 13 and 15 year old sons in sports anymore. I keep injuring myself. The brain says go, the body says no.
What's your favourite food? A big medium-rare, rib-eye steak.
Favourite place to holiday? Thailand by far.
If you won $10M in the lottery, what would you do? Pay off the house. Buy a couple of nice old cars. Do a bit of travelling but definitely keep working.
If you could change one law, what would it be? To make it illegal for political parties to receive donations (bribes), from business people or ‘industry groups’.
